Funerals and Memorials

“Oh that I had wings of a dove!
For then I would fly away and be at rest.”
Psalm 55:6

At funeral and memorial services, a dove release is a peaceful and healing tribute symbolizing the message of hope and rememberance. The releasing of doves is a beautiful way of expressing a final goodbye. Letting a single White Dove fly from your hands is symbolic of letting go of the loved one's spirit to let it fly freely up to the heavens. Seeing the Spirit Dove unite with a flock of White Doves circling overhead offers a feeling of peace and calmness, helping to bring closure to family members of a lost loved one. A White Dove release is a unique and heartfelt way to honor your loved one at the graveside services.

We offer several funeral/memorial release options below. Hand-releasing is the most common way that our doves are released because people can personally feel that they are letting their loved one go as the dove flies away. Single White Doves can be released by family members and friends or from a small white wicker basket. Flocks of White Doves are released from a decorative white wicker basket. We can play music as an option during our White Dove Release. Click *here* to listen to a sample of our White Dove Memorial Release music.

Spirit Dove

  • A single White Dove is released representing the loved one's eternal Spirit on a final journey to Heaven.
  • If there is more than one soul to be remembered, a single dove can be released to represent each one.

Holy Trinity Dove and Spirit Dove

  • 3 White Doves are released representing the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  • Then a single White Dove is released representing the spirit of the loved one joining with the Holy Trinity in Heaven.

Seven Doves

  • The number 7 is a significant number in the Bible.
  • Seven White Doves can represent seven angels in white flying though the sky.
  • A single Spirit Dove is also released.

The Coming of the Angels
  • The number 12 is also an important number in the Bible. Twelve doves can be released to represent 12 blessings: hope, joy, wonder, praise, peace, benevolence, comfort, faith, perserverance, strength, love, and grace.
  • 12 White Doves are released from a basket a short distance from the gravesite. They will circle over the ceremony several times, as if angels have arrived to escort the loved one's spirit to heaven.
  • Then a single White Dove is released by a family member which soars up into the sky and joins the "angels" overhead waiting to escort the spirit on the journey home.
The Twenty-One Dove Salute
  • The twenty-one gun salute is often the highlight of official military ceremonies and commemorations. If your loved one served in the military we can release 21 doves, peacefully acknowledging their dedication to our armed forces.
  • Special Note: “The Twenty-One Dove Salute” is accompanied by the "Single Dove" release, and is given as a gift from Palouse White Dove Release. This is in honor of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001 and all of our fallen Heroes. This package and gift is available for military and public service persons ONLY.

A dove for closest family and friends

  • We can simply bring a dove for each person that wants to take part in the release of doves at the funeral service.
